2009-2010 Financial aid planner w/important dates
This planner is intended to help you with important dates and events.
These dates are guidelines; be sure to check actual deadlines on applications and documents!
November
- Start doing scholarship searches for the following school year.
December
- Download and complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on the Web worksheet.
- Apply for admission to Western Oregon university if you have not already done so.
- Locate your FAFSA pin or request one online in order to file the FAFSA online.
January
- Gather year-end income tax information.
- Complete the FAFSA. Use estimated information, if necessary.
- If you’re male, over 18 and required to register with selective service, do so at the post office or on the FAFSA.
February
- Feb. 15: Apply for admission to be most competitive for Presidential and Provost scholarships.
- Feb. 15: Diversity Commitment Scholarship and WOU General Scholarship application due for new freshmen applicants.
March
- March 1 - WOU’s FAFSA priority receipt date at the Federal Processor.
- Continue searching for and completing scholarship applications.
April
- Make any necessary corrections to the information you provided on your FAFSA.
- April 15: Diversity Commitment Scholarship for new transfer students.
- April 15 WOU General Scholarship application due for current WOU students and new transfer students.
May
- Once your FAFSA has been reviewed and the Financial Aid Office has all requested forms, you will receive an award letter.
- Report any outside scholarships to the Financial Aid Office.
- Incoming transfers: attend WOU’s Early Bird Registration.
June
- Return a signed copy of your award letter, within two weeks, to WOU’s Financial Aid Office.
- Find a summer job. This is a good resource to help pay for your educational expenses.
July
- Incoming freshmen: attend WOU’s Summer Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR) program if you did not attend in June.
- Report any outside scholarships to the Financial Aid office.
August
- Save your earnings from your summer job to help pay for your education.
- Sign and return loan promissory notes to the WOU Financial Aid Office.
September
- Classes start!
- Participate in New Student Week activities.
- Attend a loan counseling session (during New Student Week).
- Fee payment at WOU .
October
- Fee payment continues.
