Entrance loan counseling
Remember loans must be repaid!
If you decide to accept a loan, you are making a commitment to repay it. Loan counseling is required by WOU's Financial Aid Office to help you understand your loan obligations. Students receiving the Federal Direct Loan for the first time at WOU must complete an entrance loan counseling session available through the Financial Aid Office during New Student Week, by appointment, or over the Web. Refer to The Student Guide (also available at the WOU Financial Aid Office) for all loan deferment and/or cancellation options available.
Exit loan counseling
Remember loans must be repaid!
WOU offers two types of student loans, and you must complete exit counseling for each type of loan that you have borrowed. Read the information below about completing loan counseling. If you are unsure about which types of loans you have borrowed or your total student loan debt, you may view your student loan records by using the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS). Please note that NSLDS only reflects federal student loans; if you borrowed private student loans from a bank, they will not show in this system as they are not federal student loans.
Federal Direct Stafford Loans (subsidized and unsubsidized) Loan counseling sessions are provided at the end of each term or by appointment. Contact the Financial Aid Office for more information. Stafford exit loan counseling is also available over the web.
Federal Perkins Loan
Federal Perkins loan entrance counseling
Students who have accepted a Federal Perkins loan at WOU must participate in online entrance loan counseling prior to loan disbursement. Complete Federal Perkins loan entrance counseling at www.mappingyourfuture.org. Questions about Perkins loan counseling should be directed to the WOU Business Office at 503-838-8201.
Federal Perkins loan exit counseling
Students who borrowed a Federal Perkins Loan at WOU must participate in online loan counseling by visiting www.mappingyourfuture.org. Information regarding your actual loan amounts borrowed and payment due dates will be mailed to you after you complete your exit loan counseling. Federal Perkins Loans are repaid to the WOU Business Office. Please contact the WOU Business Office at 503-838-8201 if you have questions about your Federal Perkins Loan.
