About Gary Dukes

Dr. Gary Dukes grew up in Lebanon, Oregon. In January 2004 he returned to the state to join Western Oregon University as the Vice President for Student Affairs. Before coming to Western, he was dean of student life and development at Colorado State University-Pueblo. Prior to January 2000, he worked at Southern Oregon University as the director of housing administration and residential life.
His professional experience includes teaching English and Interdisciplinary Studies courses at Colorado. At Southern he developed and taught a University Colloquium course series and a Communication course of leadership development for resident assistants. Dr. Dukes encourages students to take advantage of the diverse learning opportunities offered at Western. The University has many academic and co-curricular choices to assist students in their career paths and to enrich their lives.
Dr. Dukes holds a bachelor of science in Psychology from Oregon State University, a master of education in higher education and student affairs administration from the University of Vermont, and a doctor of philosophy in educational leadership and policy studies from the University of Washington.
