"We are just eating our own tears." - Agatha Schmaedick and Chad Sullivan, two University of Oregon graduates, spent three months researching labor conditions in Indonesia.  They will be speaking on campus about their experience and the cruel reality concerning sweatshops propagated by many corporations situated in the U.S.

Response to College Republican "Buy your Gal a gun" day - PRAXIS: Theory into Action group is not debating the legitimacy of gun ownership. The overriding concern of our members is that gun ownership is an enormous responsibility, and as such should be treated with the conscientiousness and seriousness it deserves. This is not an issue to be taken lightly, nor jokingly.

Elena Featherston - PRAXIS is co-sponsoring with SAGE the visit by Elena Featherston. Elena Featherston is an educator, writer, cultural critic and videographer challenging inequity on interconnected fronts. A self-described "visionary hellraiser,"she speaks on social justice focusing on multicultural alliance-building. Striking a balance between humor and astute political analysis, she fearlessly examines gender issues, racism, classism, 'colorism,' domestic violence, the media, education & sexual assault. Featherston is the producer/director of the award-winning documentary Alice Walker: Visions of the Spirit and the editor of the book Skin Deep: Women Writing on Color, Culture, and Identity.

Pastora Asunción Gutierrez: Zapotec Weaver - Gutierrez is the 29-year-old director of a women's weaving cooperative from Teotitlán de Valle, Oaxaca, Mexico. PRAXIS is sponsoring her visit to the WOU campus to share her art, her work, her life, and her passion for traditional weaving techniques that have been passed through generations in her family and community. She will also speak about the cooperative.
