Leadership Recognition Night is Just Around the Corner!

Leadership Recognition Night (LRN) is a night where student leaders are recognized for their hard work and dedication to the Western Oregon community. Each year, we have a variety of awards for which students are nominated by their faculty, staff, and peers. There are four major awards which are given to graduating seniors who have gone above and beyond to demonstrate their skill in leadership, their impeccable character, and dedication to serving the Western Oregon community.

About the Awards

Klush Tum Tum

This year marks the 19th year that Western Oregon University will present an award that identifies an individual who, in a special way, makes a significant contribution to the campus and the greater community. The name of the award, Klush Tum Tum (flesh-ka dum dum) is a term borrowed from the Chinook Jargon used by the Calapooia tribe, a group indigenous to this area of the Willamette Valley. The Chinook Jargon was originally a trade language that helped facilitate communication among fur traders along the coast and Willamette Valley. It borrows words and phrases from other languages and dialects to describe transactions and relationships between people. The phrase, Klush Tum Tum reads as “an individual who has a heart for people.”
This award was created to identify a student who embodies the “heart of WOU.” Our award winner exemplifies the best in people and is at the very soul of what we want our students to become. If you have a student that you feel fits this criteria, please complete the nomination form on our website by March 30, 2016. Students must be in good academic and judicial standing.

To nominate a student for the Klush Tum Tum award, you need to login to your OrgSync account on the WOU portal, join the Student Engagement portal and click on Forms.

This year’s Leadership Recognition Night theme will be “Leadership Awakens” and we will be celebrating our winners as the Star Wars Rebel Alliance would!

To submit a student for an award please use the Award Designation Form to recognize students who have made significant leadership contributions to student groups or university departments.  The criteria used to determine these awards are defined by the individuals, groups or departments making the award.  These are completely your own criteria.  All students designated on the forms will be recognized at this year’s event.  Certificates will be made, if requested, for the award winners.

To submit an award please complete the online form here.

If you need a physical copy of the form, they are available upon request.

Award nominations are due no later than 5pm on Wednesday, March 30, 2016

Please note:  Due to the increasing number of students being recognized at this annual event, it is strongly encouraged that groups and organizations use their regularly scheduled meetings and activities to recognize large numbers of students for their contributions to the group.  It is our hope that groups and departments will use this event to recognize outstanding individual contributors to their organizations.
