Social Science AT WOU

The BA/BS degree in Social Science is an interdisciplinary major in social science that prepares students for a variety of responsibilities in both private and governmental agencies. Students can specialize by choosing courses, with the approval of an advisor, that best meet their goals and needs.

What does a Social Science Major degree look like?

Social Science courses include those in Anthropology, Criminal Justice, Geography, History, Political Science, and Sociology.  Although the major requires one area of concentration, there is room to explore several fields.  People interested in History may take many Geography classes (a good combination for teachers), people often combine Sociology concentration with many Criminal Justice classes, and Anthropology can be complemented by any of these areas. It's flexible!

What do people do with Social Science Degrees?

Student graduating with these degrees may teach, work abroad (such as in Peace Corps, when a minor in a foreign language is useful), work in diverse areas of human services and justice, or enter the private sector in many ways.

If you have a vision of what you want to do, plan in internship into your program.  Consider doing an internship or a course involving social action just to improve the world!
