On behalf of the men and women of your Campus Public Safety Department, I want to welcome everyone to the Western Oregon University Public Safety online. As our mission states below in the "what we do" section, we are here to provide a safe and secure environment for the campus community. In order to accomplish this mission, the Campus Public Safety Department maintains the highest standards of work performance and interaction between the officers and the campus community. Through the use of programs and presence across campus our officers address the diverse needs of our students, faculty, staff and visitors. The Campus Public Safety Department is always available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Please feel free to contact us for any of your needs or concerns by email, telephone or in person.

The mission of the Campus Public Safety Department of Western Oregon University is to engender a sense of safety and security within the University community by providing an environment in which students, faculty, staff and visitors can openly learn, teach, study, work, and live. The environment is accomplished by a professionally trained corps of officers and staff that honor the individual dignity, diversity, and civil liberties of all people.

General information

The WOUAlert emergency notification system: (provided by 3n National Notification Network) enables the university to contact the WOU community in the event of an emergency by sending messages through your preferred electronic devices:

Emergency Response Guide: In the event of a major utility service disruption, inclement weather, medical emergency or crime in progress, the Emergency Response Guide is intended to be a basic manual for use by staff and faculty to respond to emergency situations that may occur on campus. By referring to this guide and using common sense the event can be handled in a coordinated and effective manner that will minimize the effect on the campus.

Located in the heart of Oregon’s lush Willamette Valley, Western Oregon University is the oldest institution in the Oregon University system with an award-winning campus that blends welcoming traditional features with multimedia classrooms, wireless web access and a state-of-the-art library. WOU is home to the nationally-renowned Teaching Research Institute, the Regional Resource Center on Deafness and the Rainbow Dance Theatre with approximately two-thirds of its students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the rest in the College of Education.
