Dr. Dickinson earned B.A. degrees in political science and German from Washington State University in 1994, M.A. degrees in political science and German from Bowling Green State University in 1999, and a Ph.D. in political science from Purdue University in 2004. He teaches courses in comparative politics, with an emphasis on Peace Studies and politics in South Africa, Austria and Germany.

His publications include Copts in Michigan (Michigan State University Press, 2008) and Globalization and Migration: A World in Motion (Rowman and Littlefield, 2017), as well as a number of articles and book chapters on South African politics, Austrian politics, and German immigration policy.
