Study Abroad Capstone Project
Overview
Every Western Oregon University student who studies abroad completes a capstone project. The purpose of the project is to help students learn about their destination, enchance their cultural observation skills while they are abroad, and reflect on the impact of their study abroad experience once they return.
Students may access the capstone syllabus and the syllabus handouts using the links below. Students also complete a journal writing requirement while they are abroad, and they are given a journal for that purpose during the pre-departure orientation.

Prior to departure:
1. Take Pre-Departure Survey
2. Complete Essentials to Know handout above.
3. Complete all secondary paperwork that you received at your interview.
4. Attend pre-departure orientation session. Dates for 2009/10.
While abroad:
1. Complete journal assignment (see syllabus). You will receive a journal and additional instructions at pre-departure orientation.
When you return:
1. Take Post Study Abroad Survey
2. Attend the required re-entry session. See dates below.
3. Write your paper, following the instructions in the syllabus and in the grading rubric.
4. Prepare your PowerPoint presentation, following the guidelines on the presentation verification form. Present your PowerPoint and submit the verification form to the Office of Study Abroad and International Exchanges.
