Student Enrichment Program

What are the Program's Goals? SEP helps students:summer bridge

  • Develop the writing, math, learning, critical thinking and study skills necessary to succeed at WOU.
  • Maintain a GPA necessary to achieve their individual goals. Make a commitment to WOU and integrate into the campus community.
  • Develop the interpersonal skills necessary to be successful personally and academically.

 

Who is Likely to Benefit?

 

Students often enter college without being adequately prepared. Long absences from school, poor preparation in writing and math, inadequate study skills, or a lack of confidence are typical concerns that new students may experience. The SEP staff focuses on working with each student's individual needs.

 

What are the benefits of being an SEP participant? SEP offers the following FREE services:

  • Comprehensive academic advising for students as they proceed through their general, major and minor degree requirements
  • Progress monitoring through periodic and regular meetings with program staff
  • Support advising for personal concerns and career goal setting
  • Basic math instruction to provide the skills needed to enroll in math courses that fulfill degree requirements
  • Individualized instruction with professional staff in reading, study skills, writing, and critical thinking skills
  • Seminars and workshops on study skills, stress management, campus and community resources, time management, defining a major, and much more
  • Assistance with registration, financial aid and filling a FAFSA, professors and campus resources.
  • Cultural enrichment activities to help students broaden their awareness and get to know other students
  • Availability of laptop computers, tape recorders, graphing calculators, CD players, and a resource library of printed materials for check out by program participants
