Responsible Conduct of Research at WOU As of January 2010, the National Science Foundation (NSF) required all applicant institutions to have in place, at the time of proposal submission, a plan for providing "appropriate training and oversight in the responsible and ethical conduct of research to undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral researchers."
In support of the NSF requirement, WOU has identified an online training program offered through the National Institute of Health (NIH) Office of Extramural Research to meet this requisite. While this new requirement only applies to NSF funded personnel, we extend and encourage this training for all faculty, staff, students and researchers at WOU with an interest in ethics education and the responsible conduct of research and scholarship. The WOU Plan for Fulfilling the Responsible Conduct of Research Requirement The NIH public access course in the Responsible Conduct of Research is available to the WOU community free of charge. The RCR topic areas include: Protection of Human Subjects; Ethics in Research; Research Misconduct; Data Management; Conflict of Interest; and Responsible Authorship. Upon completion of the RCR course, you will receive a certificate of completion. Note to Faculty Researchers It is a Principal Investigator’s responsibility to inform personnel, undergraduate students, and graduate students paid from NSF funds of the mandatory RCR training.
