Academic Search Premier (1984- )  

A major database covering a wide range of academic subjects. Abstracts and indexing are included for nearly 7,962 scholarly journals and general interest magazines from 1984 to the present. Over 4,000 full text journals are included, some back to 1975.

Education Abstracts (1983- )

Provides indexing and abstracting of about 580 English-language periodicals covering all aspects and age groups. 133 periodicals are available in full text. English-language books related to education published since 1996 are also indexed.

Education Index (1929-1983) (Print Index)

Provides indexing and abstracting of many English-language periodicals covering all aspects and age groups in education. Reference Collection call number: L11.E27 

ERIC (1966- ) (Educational Resources Information Center)

EbscoHost interface Complete database; includes some full text journals and some full text ERIC Documents.
FirstSearch interface Complete database; includes journal abstracts and some full text ERIC Documents.

Health Source Plus

Covers topics from general health, nutrition and professional health care publications including journals, magazines, books, essays, dictionaries and pamphlets. Abstracts and indexing for over 430 publications, some from 1984. Over 270 full text publications, some from 1990-present.

Medline

Indexes and abstracts over 3700 journals covering all areas of medicine. Records are produced by the National Library of Medicine. Several search interfaces are available including FirstSearch (1965-present).
Other interfaces: PubMed.

Physical Education Index  (1982-) (Also available as a print Index)

Indexes more than 200 periodicals in the fields of physical education and sports.

Professional Development Collection

This database provides a highly specialized collection of electronic information especially for professional educators. It covers theoretical and practical topics. Over 530 journals are indexed and there is full text coverage from near 440 journals.

SPORTDiscus (1949-)

The SPORTDiscus covers both serial and monographic literature in the following areas of sport: recreation, exercise physiology, sports medicine, coaching, physical fitness, the psychology, history and sociology of sport, training, and conditioning. Seventy percent of the database consists of periodical articles.

The e-skeleton Project (National Science Foundation)

Interactive comparison and examination of the human and gorilla skeletal systems. Requires Quick Time or VRML Player.

Human Anatomy On-Line (Informative Graphics Corporation)

Interactive human anatomy tutorial, heavily dependent on Java applets. Contains over 100 images and also includes descriptive links. Excellent resource for classroom presentations.

 

Virtual Autopsy 2 (University of Leicester - Department of Pathology)

Site contains several case studies, with autopsy photographs and patient information. General anatomy and physiology information is also present.

Human Kinetics

Provides information for faculty, students, and others interested in exercise, fitness, or health. Includes information on related careers and organizations, as well as offering table of contents information from HK journals.

Sportscience

A peer-reviewed journal and site that includes information on sports medicine, nutrition and training as well as articles.

Articles and advice on a variety of health and fitness topics.

The links to USDA Nutrition projects are useful. Include nutritional values and average consumption data as well as current research and publications.

Health Finder (US Department of Health and Human Services)

Searchable collection of Internet and other resources related to health. Well organized, with a large number of relevant topics from reliable sources.

Health Web

Searchable database providing access to health information on the Internet. An excellent starting point.

Nutrition Analysis Tool (University of Illinois)

Nutrition.gov (Federal Government)

Internet portal to hundreds of nutrition and health information web sites, which includes statistics, current issues, articles, reports and more. It is searchable via topics or keywords.

USDA Nutrient Database for Standard Reference 11-1

Allows searchable access to the nutrient content of over 5,900 foods.

The "Virtual" Nutrition Center(Martindale)

Includes information on metabolic pathways and genetic maps, interactive anatomy browsers, online journals, nutrition literature and patent searches, dictionaries and glossaries, online nutrition calculators, courses, tutorials, and databases.

Includes information on NATA publications (indexed for current two years), careers, university programs, ethics, and research.

Interactive Respiratory Physiology (Johns Hopkins)

Dictionary and encyclopedia are particularly useful. Includes modular tutorials on aspects of respiration.

Muscle Physiology (University of California San Diego)

The muscle physiology lab. Includes links, recent conferences and current projects at the lab.

The Neuromuscular Research Center (Boston University)

Includes 8 labs that make up the NMRC. Each lab section has current research, multimedia resources and relevant papers. Some parts are under construction.

SportEX
