PDFCreator is a program at computer workstations in the Hamersly Library which can produce a PDF file from most software applications (e.g., Word, web pages, etc.). Follow the instructions below.
1. Create a document.
For example, open Word and enter text, add tables and graphics, etc.
You do not have to save the document first in Word DOC format before creating the PDF, but you can save as a Word file before creating the PDF.
2. “Print” to PDFCreator.
a) In Word, use File-Print and select the PDFCreator choice, which is at the bottom of the list of printers.
b) When you “print” to PDFCreator for the first time, the PDFCreator program will not automatically start. In this case, go to the Windows desktop and double click on the PDFCreator icon. The program can also be opened through the Start button.
3. Save to PDF in PDFCreator.
Your “printed” document will be listed in a queue within PDFCreator. Highlight the document and click on “Save.” This creates the PDF file. After the document is saved, Adobe Reader will automatically startup and a hardcopy of the PDF can be sent to a printer. If sent to a printer, the print job must be released through the print balance system icon on the desktop.
