Rhodes Donated to the University in
Spring 2002 from Joseph I. & Margaret (Gentle) Hall Daniel Rhodes is the author of Clay and glazes for the potter, New York, Greenberg [1957], (a definitive source for ceramicists.) This work is currently not on exhibit in the library and is stored in the University Archives. It can viewed by appointment with the Archivist.
In a letter from Joseph Hall, he describes how this piece came into their possession. "The piece is one of Rhodes' earlier works and come into our possession through an intermediary. When I was a teaching fellow at Harvard in 1945 one of my fellow students in the doctoral program was Mildred M Landis who also taught a course in ceramics in which my wife was enrolled. ...We kept in touch and twenty years ago she gave us the Rhodes piece as a gift. Dr. Landis had received the piece from Daniel Rhodes when he was teaching at Alfred University and Dr. Landis was a mature student there. I do recall that she had the piece in her apartment in Cambridge."
