About the Invitation:
The Hamersly Library is soliciting submissions
for a juried show titled “Against the Rain.” We are hoping
to select 40 examples of original art using a plain, white paper umbrella
as a blank canvas.
The exhibition space extends from the main lobby through all three floors
and presents a variety of display opportunities.
Entries will be juried by members of the Western Oregon University Art
Department.
Plain white paper umbrellas were available at the Library for a $6.00
fee to cover the cost of the umbrella. Click

Exhibition:
The exhibition will take place in the Wayne & Lynn Hamersly Library
at Western Oregon University, Monmouth, OR. The exhibition space extends
from the main lobby through all three floors and presents a variety of
display opportunities.
Jury selection will be January 8-9, 2004. Applicants
with email will be notified of jury selections. A list of selected works
will be available on January 12, 2004. Entries not selected need to be
picked up or alternate arrangements January 12-16, 2004. Re-shipment of
works not selected will begin January 12, 2004.
Installation will be January 12-16, 2004.
The exhibition dates are January 19-March 5, 2004.
Criteria:
This invitation is extended to Western faculty, staff, students, alumni,
retired faculty and members of the local community. Works will be suspended
and cannot weigh more than 10 pounds.
Works may be available for sale. If your piece is
sold through the exhibit, there will be a 30% commission charged with
the proceeds going to the library to support future exhibits.
Artist must provide special installation instructions
as appropriate.
Liability and Risk:
All works will be insured while in the library. Artists are urged to obtain
their own insurance to cover possible damage during shipment. Care and
caution will be exercised in handling the works and reasonable security
will be provided.
Shipping and Delivery:
Works must be shipped prepaid in sturdy reusable crates or cartons. Be
sure to list insurance value (needed for return shipment) and price of
the work if for sale or NFS on the entry application.

Return shipment will be made according to the prepaid
method specified by the artist. (No post office addresses, please.) Works
may also be hand delivered to the Hamersly Library by Wednesday, January
7, 2004 at 5:00 p.m.
Reclaiming:
Hand-delivered work must be reclaimed at the Hamersly Library, Western
Oregon University on March 8 and 9, 2004. Beginning March 8, 2004 shipped
works will be re-shipped according to the prepaid method specified by
the artist. Work not picked up will be considered a donation and become
the property of Western Oregon University.
