Oregon Law Enforcement Memorial Wall
In the Service of Mankind - Police Memorial
"In the Service of Mankind"
Dedicated to law enforcement officers in Oregon, the granite wall stood outside the
Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) Building
on the campus of Western Oregon University.
Each May, in recognition of National Police Month,
the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training hosts the ceremony
to honor officers who have given their lives while serving the citizens and visitors of Oregon.
"With the rededication of the living to the principles which guided these dead we give meaning to their sacrifice."
- Memorial wall text
From the June 2001 DPSST Bulletin Newsletter ~
"Oregon's annual Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony was held on Tuesday, May 15th. Despite the light rain, the ceremony was well attended. Ceremony participants included over forty color guard, honor guard and highland guards.
Attorney General Hardy Myers was the guest speaker and representing the family of William D. Bowman was his brother-in-law, Ryan Foote.
William D. Bowman died in the line of duty September of 2000 in a training accident.....he is gone but not forgotten.
A warm thanks to all who attended and made this ceremony memorable."
