Renewing items you have checked out: Items you have checked out from WOU may be renewed by logging in to your library account . Summit items may not be renewed. Interlibrary loan (ILL) materials may sometimes be renewed, but it depends on the policies of the library who loaned the materials to us.
Borrowing items WOU owns: All WOU students, faculty, and staff may check out circulating materials from the Hamersly Library and the Technology Resource Center. They may also borrow circulating materials from Orbis Cascade Alliance member libraries, either by visiting member libraries in person or by requesting materials via Summit. Your WOU ID card validated for the current academic term serves as your library card and is required in order to check out materials. WOU alumni, spouses of WOU faculty, emeritus WOU faculty and staff, adult residents of Polk, Marion, Benton, and Linn counties, Oregon Military Academy participants, Department of Public Safety Standards and Training participants, and Valley Link library consortium members may register as Special borrowers to receive limited borrowing privileges. See the Circulation Policy for loan periods and fines.
Borrowing items from other libraries: There are two systems through which WOU students, faculty and staff can obtain materials from other libraries: Interlibrary Loan and Summit Borrowing
Summit is used to request most books, videos, and CDs that WOU does not own. Interlibrary loan is used for books, videos, and CDs not in Summit and to request articles from journals.
About Summit Borrowing The Orbis Cascade Alliance is a consortium of libraries in Oregon and Washington. These institutions have combined the holdings of their library catalogs into a single catalog named Summit, and have made agreements to lend materials to each others faculty, students, and staff.
Summit Borrowing allows current faculty, staff, and students from WOU to request items from other Orbis Cascade libraries to be sent to WOU or to any of the other Alliance libraries for checkout. Summit is used to borrow items susch as books, videos, and CDs. It is not used for articles.
About Interlibrary Loan Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is used to obtain materials not owned by Library and Media Services and not available in Summit for students, faculty and staff. Much of the use is to borrow artilces from journals, though books, videos and CDs not available in Summit may be requested through ILL.
We also lend WOU materials to other libraries. Through cooperative lending agreements with libraries throughout the world we provide access to millions of items not available locally.
