New International Student Orientations

 

The New International Student Orientation sessions are usually scheduled in the week before the academic term starts. It was designed to provide our new international students with some background information about WOU, its campus and facility, the City of Monmouth and its local resources.

Network/Email Set-up Instructions

 

The following is a tentative schedule of events during your orientation.

Note: “**” is an optional, but fun or informative activity.

 

Monday, September 14

What to bring with you:

  1. Admission letter
  2. I-20
  3. Passport, I-94

10:00AM – 3:00PM - Check-in at ISSA office - Maaske Hall

  • Verify/Copy above documents
  • Get ID Cards, bring admission letter (Werner Center)
  • WOU Network/Email /Wolf Web ID and password set-up.
  • Verify on-campus room assignment, apply if needed or required
  • Make appointments with Academic Advising if needed
  • Sign up for free student banking and trip to Salem on Tuesday for cell phones (See below)

5:00PM - Set-up Bank Accounts with local banks (if you don’t have one) for checking, deposit, wire transfer, and get checks to pay fees. (Note: starting Fall 2009, WOU cashiers will not accept card payments, only cash or checks).


Documents or Information required:

  • Your local mailing address in United States
  • WOU ID
  • Passport, I-20, Admission letter
  • Money to deposit (Minimum $100)

Tuesday, September 15
**9:00AM - Trip to Salem for those who need to purchase cell phones. (Meet at Maaske Hall)

 

Wednesday, September 16 Dormitory Move-in at 7:30PM – Sign-up at the office if you need assistance

 

Thursday, September 17
9:00AM – 3:00PM - Intensive English Program (IEP) Placement Testing (Maaske 114) Required for students taking language classes (IEP). See Admission Letter.

 

Friday, September 18
**Campus Tour in the morning & **Bonfire off-campus at Dale/Liz (Meet at Maaske at 3:00PM and return around 7:00PM)

 

Sunday, September 20
8:30PM - University Welcome and Hypnotist (New PE Building)


Monday, September 21

New Student Orientation Overnight Trip.

We will ride a bus to Canyon View Camp in Silverton, OR and spend a night. We will return the next day.


Things you need to bring:

  1. Blankets
  2. Pillows
  3. Toiletries (toothbrush, face wash, towels, etc)
  4. Change of clothes and warm jacket (in case it gets cold)


9:00AM - Meet at Maaske Hall, be sure to have everything you need.
11:00AM - Arrive at Canyon View Camp
12:00PM - Lunch at Oak Lodge
1:00PM – New Student Orientation
5:00PM – Dinner at Oak Lodge

 

Tuesday, September 22
8:00AM – Breakfast at Oak Lodge
9:30AM – Pack up, clean up, and get ready to go
12:00PM – Arrive in Monmouth
**2:30PM – Alcohol Keynote Presentation (NPE Gym)
**6:30PM – Werner University Center Premier (Werner Center)
**10:00PM – Comedian (NPE Gym)

 

Wednesday, September 23
8:30AM – Health and Medical Screening (Mandatory Attendance at Maaske)
Bring Health History Form, health documents, etc.
**11:30AM – WOU Clubs & Organizations Fair (Werner Center)
**12:00PM – Lunch at the White Church by APS Building
**2:30PM – Sex Signals (Pacific Room)
**8:30PM – Drive-in Movie (Parking Lot H)

 

Thursday, September 24
**9:00PM – Dating Doctor (NPE Gym)

 

Friday, September 25
8:30AM to 5:00PM – Fee Payment, Check or Cash only, (ITC 013)
**11:30PM – Midnight Movie at Independence Theater, (Meet at Werner)

 

Sunday, September 27
3:00PM to 6:00PM – BBQ and meet professors at President’s House (Meet at Maaske at 2:30PM and we will walk to the President’s House)
**6:00PM – New Student Week Variety Show, Plus Team (Rice Auditorium)
**9:00PM – WOU night at Bi-Mart (Meet at Werner Center Plaza)
