New International Student & Scholar Orientation


The Office of International Education and Development welcomes you to Western Oregon University and looks forward to your arrival at WOU!


The New International Student Orientation program aims to orient new international students and scholars to life in the United States and to Western Oregon University. Orientation is designed to provide our new international students with information about WOU, its policies and procedures, its campus and facilities, and the City of Monmouth and local resources. It is important for all new or transfer international students to attend orientation.


Below is the schedule for events and required check-in procedures such as the Health and Medical Screening and immigration document check-in.

Spring Term Orientation, 2014


Wednesday, March 26

9:00AM Check-in during between this time at the OIED office in Maaske Hall

  • Verify/Copy documents (OIED Office in Maake Hall): Bring your Admission letter, I-20/DS-2019, Passport and I-94 card
  • Get your WOU ID Card (Werner University Center): bring your WOU admission letter and passport
  • Set up your WOU Network account for e-mail and WOU Portal to use the computers on campus (Library Computer Lab)
  • Set-up a bank account (if you don’t have one) for checking, deposit, wire transfer, and getting checks to pay for fees (WOU will not accept a credit card or cash for payments). You will need your local mailing address in United States, WOU ID Card, Passport, I-20, Admission letter, and a minimum of $100 to deposit.
  • Students planning on living on-campus need to verify their room assignment or apply if needed or required (Housing office in Ackerman Hall).

Health and Medical Screening: MMR and TB testing. Mandatory attendance for all new international students (OIED). Bring your Health History Form, health documents, x-ray, etc.
