International Students and Scholars

Travel Arrangements

Once you received your visa from the U.S. Embassy:

  • Inform the Office of International Students and Scholars at Western Oregon University by Phone: 503-838-8424, or by Fax: 503-838-8338, or by email: global@wou.edu, yangn@wou.edu regarding your flight schedule to Portland International Airport, Portland, Oregon.
  • Make sure that your travel documents (Passport, I-94 form, I-20 form or Ds-2019 form, and Admission letter) are in your hand-carrying briefcase so that you could present these documents to the immigration officers at the port of entry. DO NOT put these documents in your check-in luggages!!!

Once you arrived in the Portland International Airport:

  • Go through the U.S. Immigration and Custom Entry. Present your documents to the immigration officers. Make sure that every document (Passport, I-94 form, I-20 form or Ds-2019 form, and Admission letter) is returned to you by the immigration officer after the inspection!!!
  • Go to the luggage pick up area to collect you luggages.

Once you arrived in Monmouth and on campus:

  • Report to the office of International Students and Scholars at Western Oregon University before the beginning date of program.
  • Bring passport, I-94 form, and I-20 form or Ds-2019 form to the office of International Students and Scholars for making copies.
  • Attend the new students/scholars’ orientation.
  • Meet with your department academic advisor.

Airport Pick-Up

Fall Term Arrivals

A WOU representative will meet students on September 8th - 14th, 2008 at the Portland International Airport and provide transportation to campus.

 

Winter Arrivals

A WOU representative will meet students on January 5, 2009 at the Portland International Airport and provide transportation to campus at approximately 11:00 am and also at approximately 4:30 pm (subject to change).

 

 

Spring Term Arrivals

A WOU representative will meet students on March 30 , 2009 at the Portland International Airport and provide transportation to campus at approximately 11:00 am and also at approximately 4:30 pm (subject to change). 

 

Summer Term Arrivals

A WOU representative will meet students on June 22, 2009 at the Portland International Airport and provide transportation to campus at approximately 11:00 am and also at approximately 4:30 pm (subject to change). 

 

*Students arrive on other dates will need to take the HUT Shuttle from Portland to Salem, Oregon and call the International Student Services office in advance to arrange a pick-up time at the specific shuttle station. The HUT Portland Airport/Salem Shuttle with a scheduled service beginning at:5:15 am until 11:30 pm leaving Portland every hour and a half (shuttles run with the same frequency from Salem, only that the first bus departs Salem at 3:45 and the last one at 9:45). No matter which term you arrive you must notify our office with your travel arrangements before attending our university. If you decide to enter the country before the start date above you MUST report to WOU within one month of entry.

 

*Students being picked up at the airport need to wait for a WOU representative in the baggage claim area. Look for the WOU sign.

 

Pick-Up Fees

From Portland Airport: $70.00 per person per trip.

From Salem Hut/Bus/Amtrak Station: $30.00 per person per trip.
