International students admission requirements

Please mail a money order of $90 (required $50 application fee plus $40 international express mailing fee), completed application form, and the following original/official documents to:

  1. Completed and signed application form and financial affidavit form.
    Use your full legal name. List any former or maiden names, if applicable. The undergraduate and graduate application form is available online and in printable format. You may submit the electronic application online or print and mail the printable version.
  2. $50 Application Fee + $40 International Express mailing fee.
    Your application cannot be processed without the application fee. The fee is only valid for one academic year. If you wish to have your admission packet delivered by express courier service, please include an additional $40, a total of $90.
  3. Official transcripts or records of previous school work.
    Freshmen must include an official high school transcript.
    Transfer and second bachelor's applicants must have official transcripts from all previous colleges, universities, and professional schools.
    Original documents are preferred, but certified copies are acceptable. Copies must be certified as official either by the institution or an official of the United States Embassy. Certified copies of exact English translations of these records are also required.
  4. Personal or parents' bank statement of at least $25,000.
    The current tuition at Western Oregon University is approximately $13,000 per academic year. The fee is subject to change at the beginning of each academic year.
  5. Color photocopy of your Chinese citizen ID card
    (Chinese applicants only).
  6. English testing score report.
    All non-native English speaking students must provide proof of proficiency in the English language as outlined in the chart below.

    Conditional Admission ESL/Undergraduate

    Undergraduate applicants who do not have the required English proficiency are eligible to apply for the Conditional Admission Status. These students must enroll full time in the Intensive English Program (IEP) first, once they successfully completed the IEP program and achieve the required English testing score, they may start their degree program study. Graduate applicants are not eligible to apply for the conditional admission status, they must have the required English testing scores for graduate program admissions.


  7. Students who are citizens of, or who have received a Bachelor's degree or higher from a university in the following countries are exempt from the English proficiency requirement: Australia, the British Caribbean and British West Indies (Bahamas, Jamaica...), Canada (except Quebec), Ghana, Ireland, Kenya, Liberia, New Zealand, Nigeria, South Africa, United Kingdom, and the United States.

    Students who graduated or who are graduating from a two year US college are not required to take the TOEFL or IELTS tests.

    Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score is required for an applicant who has a grade-point average of less than 3.00 for the last 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of  undergraduate work attempted in the bachelor's degree program

    Please note!

    The application process for Western Oregon University carries a $50 fee and is handled by the Office of International Students & Scholars. the $50 application fee must be paid by check, money order or credit card made payable to Western Oregon University. No cash is accepted. We do not encourage, expect or require students to deal with private recruitment agencies, please know that WOU receives no profit or financial gain from any agencies or organizations. Further, please be aware that Chinese law prescribes limits on what private agencies can legally charge.

Apply online The online application is one of the first steps towards attending Western Oregon University. You will still need to mail in the $50 application fee as well as complete the other steps in the application process (see above).
