Master of Science in Education: ESOL
October 2010-While earning a Master of Science in Education in June 2004, Sandra Rands added an ESOL/Bilingual endorsement to her degree program. "I am using everything I learned from classes at WOU in my current position as an English Language Acquisition Specialist (ELAS) working out of Instructional Services at Salem-Keizer School District," Rands said. Since graduation she's taken a couple of courses at WOU, most recently Assessment for Reading Instruction with Deborah White. She added, "It was (White's) first university class but she did a fab job of engaging all of us."
Over the last 11 years at SKSD she has taught French, ESL, Spanish, English and READ180. In 2008-2009 she was a high school instructional coach. From there she switched to ELAS at the high school level and this year is ELAS at the elementary level. "The journey has been and continues to be fascinating," she said.
