Interpreter Advisory Council

Every class offered at WOU has been reviewed, tested and evaluated by our Interpreter Advisory Council. The eight member council is comprised of industry experts who provide direction on curriculum development, employment trends, student practicum placements and advocacy to Western Oregon University's Division of Extended Programs in its goal to become a top tier interpreting program in the United States.

Goals of the Industry Advisory Council

The goals of the Industry Advisory Council are:

• To actively contribute to the current and future needs of interpreting program graduates planning to enter the health care industry;
• To assist WOU/DEP in developing and implementing goals related to the HCI curriculum, student practicum and simulations;
• To create an opportunity for faculty to exchange ideas with people in the HCI industry;
• To assist WOU/DEP in seeking public and private support for the HCI curriculum, student practicum and simulations.

Membership

The council consists of eight volunteer members from the private and public sectors. Members are appointed by the Program Manager and generally asked to serve for at least two years. Membership includes:

2 Certified Medical Interpreters - Hospital/Clinical Setting

2 Certified Medical Interpreters - Freelance Setting

1 Medical Provider - Physician/Nurse

1 Health Education Representative

1 Private Interpreting Agency Representative

1 Western Oregon University Representative
