Conference for Project SPELL:Sustainable Practices for English Language Learners & Project LUISA: Language Understanding to Improve Student Achievement

Western Oregon University welcomes you to the First Annual Projects SPELL and LUISA Conference. We would like to thank our partner school districts, Central SD, Salem-Keizer and Woodburn and all those responsible for this exciting project and stimulating conference.

 

All participants in the Sustainable Practices for English Language Learners (SPELL) and Language Understanding to Improve Student Achievement (LUISA) Projects are welcome to attend. This includes those who attended classes last year and those taking the ESOL classes this year, instructors, coaches, and the administrator team.

 

Cost: The conference registration fees, refreshments, sandwich/salad bar lunch, parking, and teacher substitutes are paid for by the SPELL and LUISA Grants.

 

Substitutes: You must request a sub from your district. The grants will reimburse the districts for the cost of the subs for the whole day. Make arrangements with your district as soon as possible since substitutes may be limited.

 

PDU’s: You may sign up for PDU’s at the Conference. You must sign up at the table outside ED 217 BEFORE the 9am keynote address and sign out at the end of the conference in order to qualify for the seat-time PDU’s. If you meet the six hour requirement for six PDU’s, your certificate will be ready for you at the end of the day.

 

Location: The Conference is located in the Education Building on the main floor. The conference starts with registration, coffee, and the keynote address in ED 217. Breakout sessions are in classrooms in the building. Lunch is across the street in the Werner University Center, downstairs in the Columbia Room.

 

Directions: Follow the link to our WOU map. The conference is located in the Education Building and parking lot B (behind the ED building and next to Rice Auditorium has been designated “no fee” for the day. If you park anywhere else, you are subject to a parking fine!
