Continuing Teaching License (CTL)

A mark of distinction & accomplishment

 

The Continuing Teaching Licensure represents a demonstration of advanced teaching competency and is designed to “…measure a teacher’s ability to lead all students to learning gains, measure those learning gains and show ability to advance the teaching profession as an individual. Additionally, the CTL is a five year license, whereas, all Initial Teaching Licenses are only three year licenses.” TSPC website

FS 601 Portfolio - APD/CTL Seminar

 

Prerequisite: FS 600 Assessment and Differentiated Instruction

Continuing Teaching Licensure - Getting Started

 

Requirements for CTL

 

  1. An Initial Teaching License.
  2. Hold a master’s degree, or be a WOU graduate student within the last 15 credits of a Master of Science in Education degree.
  3. Currently employed as a classroom teacher
  4. Completed a minimum of four years full time classroom teaching (PK – 12).

Course requirements

 

FS 600 – Assessment and Differentiated Instruction (3 credits)

This course is an advanced assessment course involving statistics and data analysis for evaluation and differentiation of learning gains. Offered online each fall term. This class is a pre-requisite of FS601.

 

FS 601 – CTL Portfolio (3 credits)

Seminar meets four Saturdays between January and late April. Teachers document their ability to improve learning for the children in their classrooms.

 

Advisor-approved 3 credits of elective

Post master’s degree candidates meet with a CTL advisor and determine an appropriate elective for their professional development. Master's degree candidates meet the 3 credit elective within the degree program.

Procedures to Apply to TSPC for Your Continuing Teaching License

Once you have completed the coursework and have met the portfolio requirements, Western Oregon University will recommend you as meeting Teacher Standards and Practices Commission's (TSPC) requirements for Continuing Teaching Licensure (CTL).

 

Steps to Take:

  1. Decide when you will apply for your CTL. Plan ahead so you don't run short of time for the process to work. Check the TSPC web page for the most current fees).
  2. Download two forms from the TSPC Web page (see below for links).
  3. Request an official WOU transcript.
  4. Complete and submit your C-1 form, your official WOU transcript, and the application fee to TSPC.
  5. Fill out the top part of the C-2 form and mail it to Karen Johnson (see below).

1. The Application for Educator License Form C-1 is your application to TSPC for CTL.

You must include an official WOU transcript and an application fee (check the TSPC Web site for the most current fee information).

 

Send all three items to:

2. The Program Completion Report, Form C-2 is your request to WOU to make the recommendation to TSPC that you have met the requirements for CTL. Fill out the top of the form and mail it to WOU just prior to applying to TSPC.
