Background:

Dr. Gibbons was an assistant professor of sociology at James Madison University from 1980-86, and is currently head of the Department of Criminal Justice and a full professor at Western Oregon University, where he has taught since 1986.  Dr. Gibbons has published in the areas of juvenile alcohol and drug use, correctional institutions, prisoner rehabilitation, and community corrections.  His teaching interests include community corrections, criminology, juvenile delinquency, drug and alcohol use, theories of crime and delinquency, comparative criminal justice systems, and the US criminal justice system.
