About the Division of Extended Programs


Welcome to the Division of Extended Programs (DEP) at Western Oregon University. As the continuing education and professional development arm of WOU, DEP provides:

  • a variety of support and resources for online and other flexible delivery courses;
  • seminars and consultation on academic technologies, instructional design, and emerging pedagogies;
  • and an array of adult, professional, and community educational opportunities and workshops.

Who we are
Dan Clark

Dan Clark



As the leader of the Division of Extended Programs at WOU, Dan brings more than 15 years of experience in Adult and Distance Education. Dan came to Western Oregon from Utah Valley University, a large (30,000+ students) regional university, where he served as Senior Director for Distance Education.  Previously, Dan was the Director of the Office of Instructional Design at Valley City State University in Valley City, North Dakota. Dan holds a Master's Degree in Instructional Design, Development, and Evaluation from Syracuse University, and is currently finishing up a PhD in Adult Education from North Dakota State University.

Susan Griffin

Program Manager


Susan started with DEP in 2003 working with online graduate education programs. In 2005 she transitioned into the College of Education and spent the next five years recruiting, advising and supporting faculty and students in various ED programs. She returned to DEP in 2010 to manage online graduate programs and work with school districts and agencies for credit overlay options. Prior to starting at Western, she earned a BS in business/economics, a master's in adult education from Penn State Univ., and part of a Ph. D. in college administration. She spent nine years advising students and coordinating programs in Eastern Oregon for BMCC and EOU. Susan loves working with inspiring professionals on both WOU campus and in school districts across Oregon; she finds their commitment to lifelong learning is contagious!

Jennifer Keen

Office Spec II


Jenn started working for DEP in 2004 supporting non-credit workshops and camps. Currently, she supports multiple program managers for various on-campus to online courses. She also helps update the DEP web pages.

Elayne Kuletz

Instructional Design Coordinator


Elayne is the Instructional Design Coordinator for DEP. She is also an adjunct faculty member in the College of Education. Elayne holds an Master of Science in Education Information Technology from Western Oregon University and a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Languages from the University of Idaho. She has a patient husband, an old car, and a disobliging habit of setting off several fire alarms when she cooks.

Brian Sly-Haley

Professional Program Manager


Brian spends his days at Western by creating strategic partnerships and workforce training programs. Prior to joining the staff at WOU, he received an MBA from Willamette University and spent six years developing strategic partnerships in the nonprofit industry. Brian is a vegetarian who enjoys teaching people new ways to cook traditional meals with new ingredients.
