Credit Overlay

Credit Overlay is a great opportunity for professional development. It is a term we use to offer an "overlay" of university credit for classes, programs, workshops, in-services and/or professional development opportunities that organizations may already be conducting for their participants. This affords teachers and professionals the opportunity to gain WOU credit for a class or seminar that they are already planning to attend. Not all participants in the class need sign up for academic credit.

Who takes advantage of Credit Overlay classes? Teachers, students, administrators, and professionals have participated in our credit overlay programs. School districts and businesses seek course or seminar approval to encourage and broaden professional development options. Professional Development Units (PDU) and Continuing Education Units (CEU) are additional options.

What kind of credit is this?

This is University approved credit, at either the undergraduate level (numbers 100-499) or graduate (numbers 500-699). Depending on your advisor and your program of study, these credits can apply as electives, or substitute for required courses. Please contact your college advisor prior to registering for the class to determine how these credits may apply to your course of study.

Quarter or Semester credits? WOU only offers credits based on the quarter system. The conversion is 3 quarter = 2 semester credits.
