MONMOUTH – Western Oregon University’s third annual Making College Happen program has added some advantages for those attending the event on Tuesday, November 29.
Making College Happen is a day-long program that provides high school seniors who are students of color, first-generation college students or low-income students, an opportunity to learn about the college process at WOU.
“WOU is a powerful resource for students in Oregon and we’re happy to provide this opportunity for them,” said Anna Hernandez-Hunter, director of multicultural student services and program.
The program is now open only to high school seniors and approximately 300 students are expected to attend. Students will now be able to apply for admissions on site, which is a new benefit to this program. Four partial tuition awards will be given from a drawing comprised of the names of students who applied onsite.
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Pacific Room of the Werner University Center; with the program beginning at 9 a.m. Session topics include admissions, financial aid, a student activity fair and a student panel. There will also be a tour of the campus and free lunch.
The registration deadline is Thursday, November 17. For more information about attending the program students are encouraged to contact their high school counselor or Ricardo Torres, a WOU admissions counselor, at 503-838-8193.
