for release:  March 16 , 2006
printer friendly version: printerversion

MONMOUTH – Western Oregon University music professor Tom Bergeron, member of the Euro-American quartet Labirynt, will perform with the group during its first North American tour. The quartet will perform at WOU on Tuesday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. in room 121 of Smith Music Hall.

Labirynt has been performing in Poland and France since 1997, and has been planning for an American tour since the group’s conception. The group is comprised of Bergeron on woodwinds, Henryk Gembalski on violin, Krzysztof Majchrzak on bass, and Michal Zduniak on drums. The latter three group members are natives of Poland.

Bergeron said the group’s music is influenced by jazz and classical music as well as Eastern European and Brazilian traditions. Language barriers have caused the group to rely on music as their personal communication.

“Whenever I’ve been to Europe to work with these guys, I’ve had a great experience so I’m especially eager to see that the United States is as friendly a place for them as Poland and France has been for me,” said Bergeron.

The group will record its third album during this tour in a professional studio in Sisters, Ore.

General tickets are $8, $5 for students and seniors and WOU students are free with an identification card. For more information contact the Music Department at 503-838-8275.
