Salem artist, Tishri Whiteside, comes from an artistic family and developed her passion for creating art as a student of James Kirk. As a painter for many years, she is focused and humble about her work, stating, I'm always pleasantly surprised when something turns out. Her current collection on display this fall is an array of raw talent and delightful imagery that has turned out.

Todd Hall: Centennial Celebration
The first student dormitory on campus was built in 1912 and later named after Jessica S. Todd, the college's first Dean of Women. Her ghost is rumored to still walk the hallways of the dormitory and nearby Senior Cottage. This fall WOU Archives displays historical artifacts and alumni memories surrounding the 100 years of this grand old building.

Starving Artists' Brownbag Lunch Series: Miriam Gershow
The Starving Artists' Brownbag Lunch Series begins with a reading by award-winning author, Miriam Gershow in the Calapooia Room in Werner University Center from 12-115PM.
Miriam is a novelist, short story writer and teacher, as well as the Assistant Director of Composition at University of Oregon. Her debut novel, The Local News, was called "unusually credible and precise" and "deftly heartbreaking" by The New York Times, as well as "an accomplished debut" (Publisher?s Weekly) with a "disarmingly unsentimental narrative voice" (Kirkus Reviews).
The event, which is sponsored by the Writing Department, is free and open to the public. The upcoming schedule is included below. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Invisible Children Screening
This fall Invisible Children is premiering a brand new film, and their roadies are going to bring it to Western's community. After the film, a Ugandan speaker will talk about growing up in fear of being attacked by the LRA, as so many people in Central Africa still do today. This will be Invisible Children's 15th tour, and it?s your chance to dig deeper, ask them anything, and play an even bigger role in KONY 2012.
