MONMOUTH –
Western Oregon University earth and physical sciences professor Stephen Taylor, Ph.D., has been appointed by Governor Ted Kulongoski to the Oregon State Board of Geologist Examiners.
Taylor will serve a three-year term on the board. Essential tasks of the board include licensing of those engaged in the public practice of geology, response to complaints from the public and members of the profession, and public education directed at appropriate regulatory communities. The board also works closely with related boards and commissions, works toward the establishment of ethical standards and conducts public outreach.
In addition to general duties as a board member, Taylor will chair the outreach committee and serve as a state liaison to the national standards exam committee of the Association of State Boards of Geology.
Taylor received a doctorate in geology from West Virginia University. He received his bachelor’s degree from Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania and his master’s from Washington State University, both degrees in geology.
He has been a faculty member with WOU since 1999. In addition to teaching, Taylor has worked as a hydrogeologist, a consulting geologist involved with solid waste and reclamation projects, and a geologist involved with geophysical mineral exploration.
