Alumna Shelly Heesacker speaks at WOU about her extraordinary career

MONMOUTH – WOU graduate Shelly Heesacker will return to campus to talk about her career path, which led her to work on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and the “Dr. Phil Show.” Her talk, titled “From WOU to Winfrey – Turning Your Small College Dreams into Big Reality” will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 3:30 p.m. in room 101 of the Natural Sciences Building.

Since graduating from WOU with a bachelor’s in humanities and a minor in sociology in 1989, Heesacker has worked as a media producer, crafting video shows and segments for a variety of groups and individuals, including KATU, Oprah Winfrey, and Dr. Phil.

As a freelance field director, producer and writer, Heesacker is one of the key creative people behind the stories seen on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” “The Dr. Phil Show” and “The Doctors.” With over 20 years experience in the television industry, Heesacker has worked at Portland television stations KGW and KATU; Seattle television station KOMO and on staff for “The Oprah Winfrey Show”in Chicago. She also helped produce the local game show, “High Five Challenge.”

She is a six time Emmy Award nominee with numerous national and regional awards to her credit. Born and raised in Forest Grove, Heesacker is proud of her Oregon roots. She values time with family, friends, and her four cats.
