Monmouth – Western Oregon University welcomes Oregon College of Education, Western Oregon State College and WOU alumni, family and friends back to campus to enjoy the annual homecoming celebration on Friday, Oct. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 31. The weekend includes a full line-up of events, featuring this year’s theme, “A Nightmare on Church Street.”
Local businesses and departments across campus will contribute to the fun: reunion dinners and gatherings will be held Friday morning, magician Peter Boie will wow audiences Friday night, Rookies will provide food for pre-game fun Saturday, ROTC will demonstrate its Pumpkin catapult Saturday night and the WOU drama department will finish the evening with Death Lab 13.
Alumni can also relive their experiences on campus by taking a historic tour of the campus Friday morning (tours begin at 8:40 and 9 a.m.) or a scary building tour Friday night at 9:30 p.m., or by brushing up on their academics with special 30 minute seminars taught Saturday morning by current WOU professors and students (11 a.m. to 12:10 p.m.).
All sports fans also have the opportunity to cheer on their favorite Wolves on Saturday. The football team kicks off at 2 p.m. against the Humboldt State Jacks in McArthur Stadium, and the volleyball team faces the University of Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks at 7 p.m. in the New P.E. Gymnasium.
In addition to the crowning of this year’s Homecoming Court at half-time of the football game, former athletes will be recognized. Other highlights of the weekend include trips to the Jensen Arctic Museum, the WOU Bookstore, Café Allegro and the Wolf Express.
Death Lab 13 will be held on dates outside of Homecoming weekend as well. This haunted house is open from 7 to 11 p.m. from October 21 to 24, and Oct. 28 to 31. Tickets are $5 and it will be held in the Marc “Ted” Winters Building.
Check-in for alumni is from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday.
