Fundraisers for Governor's Food Drive

for release:  Feb. 1 , 2010

MONMOUTH – Each February, Western Oregon University participates in the statewide Governor's Food Drive. For the past six years, WOU has gathered the most food per staff person out of the Oregon University System. Various departments on campus host their own events to raise money and food for the area food banks. In addition to donating through these events. WOU employees can make a payroll deduction and anyone can write a check to make a donation.

 

Here are some of the events, each is open to the entire campus, in order of date.

Monthlong events:

OURbay auction
Sponsored by University Residences
A number of items are up for auction throughout the month, including a VIP tour of the new residence hall and a surf and turf dinner for six. Bidding is done through the link above with your campus login.

Snack-attack-pack
Sponsored by University Residences
Daily, $3 each
If you order by noon, a snack-pack (with soda, chips, animal cookies, and chocolate) will be delivered by 3 p.m. Visit the link for ordering information.

Sweet treats
Sponsored by Hamersly Library
For $1 each, you can get a power bar, Hershey chocolate bar with peanuts, Crunch bar, gummy snacks, meat sticks (pepperoni and teriyaki), or Valentine treats. They can be purchased at the library reference desk. For more information, contact Lori Hilterbrand at 8-8441.

Online auction
Sponsored by the Hamersly Library
A number of items are available for online bidding until 4 p.m. on Feb. 23. Items must be picked up and paid for no later than Thursday, Feb. 25 at 5 p.m. Contact Nora Solvedt at 8-8158 or Kelly Slaughter at 8-8889 for more information. Items will be added throughout the month.

Placemat raffle
Sponsored by Humanities Division
A set of four beautifully quilted placemats are being raffled off. Tickets are $2 each or three tickets for $5. The raffle closes on Friday, Feb. 26. Contact Debbie Braun at 8-8906 or braund@wou.edu (located in HSS 313).

 

Thursday, February 11

Fill a jar with goodies, bake sale
Sponsored by University Advancement and the Public Relations Office. Sale will take place in the Cottage
For $6 or $10, purchase an air-tight glass jar to fill with the baked goodies of your choice. A variet of cookies, bars, candy, muffins and more will be available to fill the jars. The sale will be open from 8:30 a.m.to 5 p.m. For more information, contact Lisa Catto at 8-8163.

Business Office Bake Sale
Sponsored by the Business office
A variety of cookies, breads, pies, candy and more will be available for sale from 9 a.m. until the goodies are gone. Items are available in the Business Office in the Administration Building. For more information, contact Sandy Quiring at 8-8837, Heidi Guy at 8-8170 or Susanne Kinney at 8-8958.

Cake walk
Sponsored by Student Enrichment Program, Admissions, Multicultural Student Services and Programs, Upward Bound, Office of Disability Services and Academic Advising and Learning Center
At noon, for a $1 entry fee, try your luck with a one in 10 chance to win a cake. The cake walk will take place in the Academic Programs Support Center lounge.

 

Friday, February 12

Taylor "Jacob" Lautner cardboard auction
Sponsored by the Bookstore
A silent auction is being held in the bookstore for ownership rights to the full-size cardboard cutout of Taylor Lautner, or "Jacob" from the Twilight series. The silent bidding will end at noon on Friday, Feb. 12.

 

Wednesday, February 17

Potato bar lunch
Sponsored by the President's Office, Provost's Office, Human Resources, and Graduate Office
This lunch includes will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and includes a baked potato, gourmet toppings, green salad and a dessert at a suggested donation of $4.

 

Monday, February 22

Dine and Donate at Monmouth Burgerville
Sponsored by College of Education
Burgerville will donate 10 percent of all dine-in or drive-through purchases made between 5 and 8 p.m. to the Governor's Food Drive on behalf of the College of Education.

 

Wednesday, February 24

Cottage Depot - the NOT for campus use sale
Sponsored by the University Advancement and Public Relations Offices
A great selection of gently used and new books, office supplies and some furniture will be for sale at the Cottage between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
