MONMOUTH – New and returning Western Oregon University students will participate in a service learning project on Friday, Sept. 25. Students will work with the Students and Elders Encouraging Kindness (SEEK) Program to help older adults in the Monmouth community with yard work and other help needed around the house. Students will participate in two shifts; the first from 9 a.m. to noon and the second from 1 to 4 p.m.
The SEEK Program is co-sponsored by the Monmouth Senior Center and WOU’s Service Learning and Career Development Office. This program pairs students with elders in the community who make requests for assistance.
“This volunteer day is a way to help fulfill many requests made of the program, all at once. It also gets students set on the path of service learning and increases involvement with the SEEK Program,” said Mike Finlay, community partner liaison with AmeriCorps*VISTA.
