What a great season!! After going 8 and 2 in the regular season, your Wolves went down to Utah and defeated a tough Colorado School of Mines team 26-12 in the Dixie Rotary Bowl on December 1st.
As we've said before, the extra investment made by all of you in the past year was not the only reason the team was successful, but it was a big one. Thanks to your support of the team and the coaches, WOU had its best record since 1976.
We've seen the results of providing the team with the tools to be competitive and we need to keep providing them with those tools. We're committed to taking this new level of support and building upon it. This kind of commitment will be necessary to make sure our team has future opportunities to participate in the Rotary Bowl and, ultimately, the NCAA Division II playoffs.
Next season, the Wolves play in the reconstituted GNAC with the return of Western Washington and Central Washington, two teams who have a great deal of financial backing. Central Washington just ended a great run themselves, with a third round playoff loss to defending National Champions, Grand Valley. We've closed the $$$ gap this year with Central, but there's still more to be done. If the Wolves are going to be the top team in the GNAC, we need to give our athletes the same scholarship and program support that their competitors receive. (We keep saying this because it sums up our whole message in one sentence.)
We reached our $100,000 goal last year. This year, we need to reach and exceed that amount. Our success will again be a big ingredient in the team's success.
