Board of Directors

 

Meet the current board members below. The board of directors helps plan and implement alumni programs and events. It meets once per term (three times per year). If you are interested in becoming a board member and making a difference in your alma mater, please update your information.

 

Our Mission

The Western Oregon University Alumni Association exists to engage alumni in a life-long partnership for the advancement and mutual interest of the alumni and the University.

Ron Clark '83

Ron Clark '83

Ron earned his B.S. in Social Science from WOU in 1983. He then went to law school at Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark College graduating cum laude, and received his Doctorate of Jurisprudence in 1987. He is a Partner at the Portland, Oregon law firm of Bullivant, Houser, Bailey where he focuses his practice on Litigation (insurance coverage, bad faith, product liability, general tort defense). Ron’s wife (Kathy Selberg ’83) is also a WOU alum, and they live in Beaverton with their two children, Nathan and Kelcee.

Dwayne Hilty '99

Dwayne Hilty '99, Past President

Dwayne earned his B.A. degree in Psychology at WOU then continued his education and received his Masters of Divinity from Abilene Christian University. Dwayne currently serves the lead pastor of Soma, a Church of the Christ, in an emerging community in West Salem. He and his wife, Julie, have been married since 1999 and have two sons, Riley and Logan.

Nick Mausen '67, '72, President

Nick married Patricia Benton ’68 in 1968. He has two daughters and two granddaughters. Nick taught Language Arts and was a counselor and coach for 4 years. In 1971, he began a 31-year administrative career in public education, first as a principal, then as Director of Student Services. Nick is now retired and has an educational consulting business in Salem.

Adam Slaton '01

Adam Slaton earned a B.A. in Social Science with a minor in Latin American Studies. After graduating, he worked at WOU as an Advisor for the Multicultural Student Services and Programs Office. In 2003 he left and spent a year abroad in the Dominican Republic. Adam then earned his M.Ed. at George Fox University in Educational Foundations and Leadership. In 2005, he returned to the Dominican Republic to complete the building and development of the International Language Institute, a community-based facility that serves the greater population through teaching comprehensive English language and computer skills. He also invested his time teaching US History and Government, as well as developing and implementing leadership programs at high schools within the Dominican Republic. Adam returned to the US and to WOU in 2008 to take the position of Leadership Development Coordinator.

Roger Zumwalt '69

Roger Zumwalt '69

Roger has a B.S. degree from WOU, an M.A. degree from Oregon State University (cum laude), and he participated in the post graduate program in hospital and healthcare administration at The University of Iowa. He has worked for SAIF Corporation in the Administrative Services Division, for over ten years. Roger also has 25 years experience as a hospital administrator (CEO) and, in addition, (since 1978) an active healthcare accreditation surveyor, a surveyor instructor for healthcare accreditation specialists, and an approved healthcare accreditation consultant with the Health Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP), in Chicago, Illinois. Roger has received several national recognition awards in healthcare and has been distinguished as a Fellow in his professional college.
