Call for Speakers

The National Center on Deafness at California State University, Northridge has been awarded a federal contract to continue it's Western Region Outreach Center & Consortia (WROCC) to increase educational opportunities for persons who are deaf or hard of hearing across the range of postsecondary educational institutions in the western region of the United States.

WROCC is soliciting speakers, trainers, and consultants who wish to be listed in Consultant & Trainers Online Directory. WROCC is seeking speakers who have expertise related to the provision of services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing at the postsecondary level. This directory will serve to assist postsecondary institutions in locating assistance and resources regionally or nationally. WROCC will post the information on speakers online. The actual negotiations for dates and fees will be between the parties Involved. WROCC assumes no responsibility for the presentation or quality thereof.

WROCC has identified seven major areas in which consultants and trainers are needed:

1. Transition to and from postsecondary education
2. Service provision: In-service training or policy development for interpreters, notetakers, tutors and CART captionists.
3. Student Success: Counseling students who are deaf or hard of hearing, leadership, student development and developmental classes.
4. Deaf awareness for faculty, staff, and administrators.
5. Availability of financial resources for students and/or institutions.
6. Understanding of federal statues i.e., 504 and ADA, as they relate to public and private postsecondary institutions.
7. Working with non-traditional postsecondary institutions to understand the needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing in these unique settings.
