Western Oregon Jazz Orchestra

The Western Oregon Jazz Orchestra is WOU’s large-scale jazz and popular music ensemble. This group performs music ranging from Duke Ellington to Radiohead and regularly performs arrangements by students and faculty. In addition to the standard big band instrumentation that includes trumpets, trombones, saxophones, and rhythm section instruments, the group commonly includes vocalists, strings, woodwinds, horn, tuba, and electronic instruments. Previous guest artists include New Orleans legend Allen Toussaint, jazz trumpet virtuoso Cuong Vu, The Platters lead vocalist Sonny Turner, and Oregon based luminaries like Dave Frishberg, The Mel Brown Trio, Dan Balmer, Nancy King & Steve Christofferson, and Curtis Salgado. Each year the Western Oregon Jazz Orchestra performs several concerts, records, and tours off campus.
