About the Crime Analysis Concentraton (CAC)

The Crime Analysis Concentration (CAC) is a structured educational option within the Criminal Justice Major that leads to a BS in Criminal Justice, a Certificate in Crime Analysis, and a minor in Computer Science.

This program prepares students for:

  • Employment as Crime Analysts in federal, state, or local criminal justice agencies
  • After three -years employment as crime analyst, serves as academic foundation for Certified Law Enforcement Analyst (CLEA) certificate from International Association of Crime Analyst.
  • Introduces a number of technologies, techniques, and philosophies associated with the science of crime analysis
  • Students will learn to use advanced investigative software, including GIS, crime scene, and crash investigative software
  • The CAC curriculum is based on standards, recommendations, and philosophies suggested by
    1. International Association of Crime Analyst (IACA)
    2. The International Association of Chiefs of Police
    3. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security

 

 

While other coursework may be taken at the student's convenience, a cohort of approximately 20 students form each Fall term to begin a 6-course sequence of crime analysis classes that run through the academic year:
