Supplemental Syllabus for Graduate Students in ANTH 400/500 Courses

In addition to all standard requirements detailed on the syllabus for undergraduate credit in this course, graduate students will:

1. Model scholarly and collegial behavior for undergraduates with respect to attendance, preparation, participation, collaboration, respectful exploration of disagreements, acknowledgment and citation of sources, and any other matter of scholarly etiquette deemed relevant by the instructor.

2. Meet with the instructor during the first week of classes to select a topic appropriate to the course but not included on the syllabus. Research this topic in the current anthropological literature, prepare a formal paper, and present as a one hour lecture during the last third of the term. If desired by the instructor, the graduate student will select and assign readings, prepare discussion questions, and lead discussion of these materials as part of the presentation.

3. Make weekly progress reports on the graduate project and preview the presentation for the instructor, revising if needed, to ensure that the work makes a substantive and accessible contribution to course of instruction.

4. Evaluation of all parts of this project will contribute at least 20% and not more that 40% of the graduate student's grade. The remainder of the grade will be based on the requirements set out in the undergraduate syllabus. 500-level grades will be assigned according to the graduate grading system set out in the WOU catalog.
