I went to a gyro store and tried to ask the man running it for a gyro in Greek. He immediately told me to talk to him in English. After this experience, every time I would go to get the same meal, it would be more and more expensive. I was saddened that there was this animosity, and couldn't totally understand why it was. Now I can see that some people do not like Americans, or maybe me trying to speak Greek and get into the "in-group." I see the policies that America has made that might hurt Greece. I feel I need to get a better outlook and the plethora of issues the United States has around them, to know the history of them and current outcomes to understand what different cultures think of us. I think when I meet other cultures I will think twice before trying to fit in because from this experience it feels like there is no way in.
