1. Communicating with a different ethnic group posed a great challenge the first week and still continues to be to a lesser degree. This was mainly caused at the beginning by not understanding the language, thus struggling to communicate. 2. I worked to learn German phrases that would help me merely exist and survive in Vienna, yet I chose to take advantage of speaking English by hanging around other English speakers. 3. In the last two weeks, I have pushed myself to use the little German skills that I know when I can. This has enabled me to communicate with those of other cultures by eliminating the language barrier. 4. What happened was the fact that I started learning German. 5. This has helped me to feel less isolated from the Viennese culture. 6. I feel that in the long run, this will help me comprehend a difference right away and then work to eliminate it.
