1. The train and bus system, where times change, trains and buses change and no one announces the change, punctuated by workers strikes and a general irritation with foreigners. 2. The first week here traveling I was incredibly paranoid and nervous. I was compulsively checking times and asking to be sure I was on the right bus or train. 3. I'd still compulsively check times, but I've learned to have a Plan B in case everything goes wrong (which has happened). I plan on catching early trains and buses, so I can get to my desired destination...I'd also arrange a place to stay if I'm going out of town, than depend on a late night train. 4. I got stranded in Livorno trying to back to Sienna from Vernazze. Everything went wrong-the train switched tracks, a conductor misinformed us, and no one announced that we wouldn't be having our stop. 5. I've basically just gotten used to the fact that the transport system is unreliable and learned to plan for that rather than be annoyed. 6. I think I'll be better prepared when things go wrong now...even if I can't plan for it, I know that if everything goes wrong, I can get through is unscathed, while a scary experience in itself, if taught me to less afraid of the unknown.
