1. Being able to make myself understood, as far as verbal communication. Especially making and understanding humor. 2. In the first week I was afraid to use the Italian I had learned in the United States because I didn't want to make a mistake and sound stupid. 3. Now, I am confident enough that I don't care if I make a mistake. 4. This happened because: 1. I reviewed and studied (am studying) grammar and vocabulary. 2. I live with Italians and Erasmus students and this has been by far the most important factor that made me learn the language and integrate into the culture. 5. My confidence; learning that Italians are blunt and not taking things personally. I value Italian culture more now and surprisingly, also my own. 6. When I return home, I think I will find Americans too loud and sheltered, and the pace of life too fast. However, I will appreciate the free-thinking of many with practice.
