One issue I encountered was difficulty in communicating with store clerks. This was particularly an issue with kiosk vendors, and other vendors selling finger foods, desserts, etc. I like to make personal communication with them, and the language made that difficult. I didn't talk to them. I always had someone with me to translate. I talk to them all the time, we smile, laugh, talk about general things the weather, life, food, etc. I started learning the Greek language. I appreciate intercommunication more. I feel more confident when I encounter a vendor on my own, without the need for a translator. When I get home, I'm hoping I will continue to be more confident communicating with strangers particularly, those who do not speak my language.
