I have over 26 years of teaching and advising experience both at the secondary
and postsecondary levels, the bulk of my professional experience has been at
universities where I have taught such courses as: general psychology;
developmental psychology, psychological and educational statistics, student
development; educational philosophy; the history of higher education;
introduction to educational foundations; theories of learning; higher
educational administration; college success courses; and freshman seminars.
Early in my career, at the University of South Carolina, I was awarded
the division’s teaching award 10 of the 12 years that I was at the
institution. I was also named professor of the year and was runner-up for the
professor of the year award for the seven-campus system of the University of
South Carolina. At Oregon State University I was nominated by the college of
Education for the OSU Dar Reese Excellence in Advising Award and at the
University of Hawaii at Hilo, the chancellor nominated me for the National
