Introduction To Printed Chemical Abstracts
Chemical Abstracts (CA) has provided scientists with access to the world's chemical
literature for the last 90 years. Over this time, the volume
of chemical literature (~94K PDF document) has increased at a tremendous rate.

Each year the staff at Chemical Abstracts monitors approximately 8,000 titles including journal articles, patents, symposia, conference proceedings, dissertations, technical reports and new chemistry books. In addition to chemistry titles, CA coverage includes important physics, biological, medical and other technical journals. CA monitors documents published in 50 languages. From this wealth of information, approximately 700,000 documents are selected for abstracting each year. CA provides concise summaries of the research presented to help you determine if you need to see the original document.
An issue of Chemical Abstracts is published weekly. Each issue includes a keyword, author and patent index. Every six months, CA publishes a set of volume indexes which include author, patent, general subject, chemical substance and formula indexes. To aid literature searchers, the volume indexes are merged periodically to form sets of collective indexes.
