GRADING SCALE
MIDTERM EXAMS 2@100 pts 200 pts A: 550-511 pts

B: 478-456 pts

C: 423-401 pts

D: 368-346 pts

F: Below 330 pts
QUIZZES 4@20 pts 80 pts
FINAL EXAM   120 pts
PROBLEM SETS   75 pts
CLASS PARTICIPATION   75 pts
  TOTAL 550 pts

QUIZZES:

Short quizzes will be given on the days denoted by the symbol . These quizes may include questions based on the homework assignment, BUT will NOT be limited to the assigned homework problems.

CLASS PARTICIPATION:

Calculated by:

Points earned* 75/(total points available-8)

HOMEWORK:

You are expected to have completed the reading assignment given for a particular date before coming to lecture on that date. The homework problems are intended to be completed after the lecture on the date listed. Working the assigned homework problems is essential to success in organic chemistry. These assignments will NOT be graded by the instructor. In working the homework assignments, it is best to have read the testbook and studied the lecture material first. Try to work each problem as if it were a question on an examination. If you cannot answer the problem correctly, go back and reread the text and your lecture notes pertaining to the topic.

CLASS POLICIES:

You are expected to attend all class periods. Once class has begun, you will not leave the room unless you have received prior approval from the instructor. Leaving or entering the room while class is in progress is extremely rude and disruptive. It is your responsibility to be present at the times scheduled for exams and quizzes. THERE WILL BE NO MAKEUP EXAMS OR QUIZZES GIVEN IN THIS COURSE. If you must miss an exam due to illness, the course grade will be determined by doubling the score on the final exam. There is no penalty for missing a single quiz as the lowest quiz score will be dropped. Laboratory attendance is required. The experiments are to be performed during the scheduled time period only.
