The prerequisite for the course I wish to take is Math 095 or satisfactory placement. I have credit for Math 105 at WOU. Do I have to take the placement exam?
Answer
Math 105 is NOT a prerequisite for any other math course
If you have taken math 095:
I have not passed the placement exam, but I know that I will do OK in the course that I need. I have spoken to my friends and they tell me that I can succeed in the course that I need without passing the mathematics placement exam.
Answer
The placement exam covers prerequisite material that you need to know in advance of enrolling in a mathematics course. If you cannot pass the placement exam, then the WOU Mathematics Department does not have evidence that you know the needed prerequisite material. You must take the placement exam. Please see the mathematics department office assistant.
The mathematics office assistant told me that I needed to take the placement exam, can I get a professor to sign me in to the course I need without taking the placement exam?
Answer
The mathematics department office assistant is the department expert for the mathematics placement exam. If you have spoken to her about the placement exam and are required to take the exam, all of the mathematics department professors will give you the same answer. None of them will sign you into a course if you have not taken the placement exam and placed at the appropriate level. Please go back to the mathematics department office assistant.
I am in a course prerequisite to the next course that I wish to take. The online registration system will not let me enroll in the course that I want for next term. Do I need to take the mathematics placement exam?
Answer
You do not have to take the mathematics placement exam, please see the mathematics department office assistant for help
I do not see my question here, should I contact the professor scheduled to teach the course I wish to take?
Answer
If your question is not here, please ask the mathematics department office assistant for help. If your question needs to be answered by a member of the mathematics department faculty, then she will refer you to the correct faculty member, this is often not the professor scheduled to teach the course. The mathematics department faculty is not available to answer mathematics placement exam questions if you have not checked in with and been referred by the mathematics department office assistant first.
